About The Position

The Protective Services Attendant (Field & Control Room) is a cross-trained, frontline role within the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation’s in-house safety and security team. This position supports daily protective services operations across the Library’s buildings, exhibitions, trails, and public spaces, while also serving scheduled shifts in the security control room. Officers maintain a visible, visitor-centered presence in public areas and provide centralized monitoring, communication, and coordination through security systems. This role is essential to day-to-day readiness, emergency response, and high-profile events, requiring strong situational awareness, clear communication, and disciplined adherence to protocol. The position reports to the Manager of Protective Services and works under the day-to-day direction of the Lead of Protective Services.

Requirements

  • Combination of extended standing/walking patrols and seated monitoring with sustained focus.
  • Demonstrated interest in providing visitor-centered safety and security, contributing to a welcoming, orderly, and respectful public environment.
  • Dependable team member withstrong communicationskills, able to remain calm, attentive, and professional in fast-paced or dynamic situations.
  • Student or early-career professional with interest in protective services, public safety, museums, tourism, or hospitality, and a desire to build experience in a mission-driven public institution.
  • Ability to respond quickly toalarms, incidents, or emergency communications.
  • Ability tolift upto 50lbsand respond physically to emergencies or medical situations.
  • Work in varied weather conditions, including rugged Badlands terrain.
  • Evening, weekend, holiday, and special-event shifts as scheduled.
  • Onsite position in Medora, ND.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily protective services operations across all public-facing and operational areas of the Library.
  • Conduct routine patrols, safety checks, and visual inspections to identify potential risks or hazards.
  • Monitor and operate security systems, including CCTV, access control, intrusion alarms, and radio communications, during assigned control room shifts.
  • Serve as a central communication point between field officers, leadership, and external responders when assigned to the control room.
  • Monitor access points and assist with visitor screening, credentialing, and access control procedures.
  • Receive, assess, document, and escalate incidents, alarms, or safety concerns in accordance with established protocols.
  • Respond to incidents, medical situations, or emergencies calmly and professionally, either in the field or through coordinated response.
  • Assist with crowd management, visitor flow, and operational support during peak visitation and special or high-profile events.
  • Maintain accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, and required documentation.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, system testing, and ongoing training
  • May provide operational information and coordination support to peers while assigned to the control room.
