About The Position

The Property Assistant will: Provide general maintenance services on Girl Scouts of Northern California camp properties, including (but not limited to) grounds keeping, janitorial maintenance, pool maintenance, light carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and repair of recreational structures. Support in maintaining camp sites, facilities, vehicles, and equipment in good working condition. Ensure a clean, safe, friendly, and welcoming camp site for girl members, volunteers, and employees to enjoy. Critical skills required to be successful in this role, include, but are not limited to: Assist in opening/closing facilities for guests – includes overnight stays or trips as planned with the Site Manager. Oversee the use of the property and facilities, including check-in and check-out and troubleshooting. Ensure the safety and security of all site guests and camp participants. Keep accurate records including timesheets, inventory, vehicle information, receipts, etc. In addition, this individual should demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and behaviors in the execution of this role: Mission Driven: Demonstrates commitment to the mission of the organization as a whole and alignment with organizational values. Requirements

  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years old.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Interest in general landscaping and property maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and with the Site Manager to meet established work plans.
  • Ability to assess site needs and use initiative to care for the property.
  • Ability to climb ladders without assistance.
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills – Ability to provide direction to property renters and guests, visitors and staff members.
  • Experience operating a tractor with grading blade.
  • Ability to use and repair hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use a mop, broom, and other cleaning tools and supplies without assistance.
  • Ability to traverse properties and walk rough terrain or work in high altitudes.
  • Stamina to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Experience in one of the trades—carpentry, construction (general), heating and air conditioning, painting (interior and exterior), fencing, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems—to maintain buildings and grounds, utilities, vehicles, and water supply systems.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. (maneuver safely in rugged terrain, climb hills and ladders, work outside in inclement weather, and sustain physical activity above 5,000 feet elevation).
  • Ability to meet the Girl Scout background and verification standards.
  • Final candidates undergo a background investigation including a criminal, education, SSN, professional licensing and driving check verification.

Nice To Haves

  • Current California Driver’s license, valid auto insurance, and be insurable by the council auto policy carrier, and have access to a vehicle on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of/experience in the Girl Scout Movement.

Responsibilities

  • Property Maintenance & Repair: Perform ongoing facilities maintenance and repair services (painting, minor carpentry, securing all structures and equipment, etc.) Conduct grounds keeping and landscaping duties, such as tree work and gardening. Regularly inspect buildings and units after each use for any health concerns or safety hazards – Use safety practices while on the job and notify the Site Manager of any potentially unsafe conditions. Provide maintenance and repair support to all Council Properties as assigned.
  • Janitorial Services: Provide quality cleaning services regularly including (but not limited to) emptying garbage and recycling, sweeping and mopping floors, buffing floors, cleaning table tops, etc. Pick up trash and transport to the dumpster or transfer station daily (or as required). Keep track of materials/supplies and restock/replenish when necessary (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc). Order or purchase supplies when needed for the property and/or as required by the Site Manager. Provide assistance to guests and camp participants such as replacing light bulbs and screens, moving furniture, or assisting in program set-up.
