About The Position

The Property Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations for a portfolio of commercial properties. This experienced role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and effective collaboration with property management, asset management, and external partners. The Property Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of assigned properties and supporting strategic decision-making through timely and accurate financial information. This position reports to the Controller.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of property accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate.
  • Strong knowledge of income tax, GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in property management software (Yardi, MRI) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, concise, and compelling messaging for diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • CPA preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial properties, including office, industrial, and retail assets.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Record and reconcile general ledger activity, including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliation.
  • Coordinate month close processes and ensure timely reporting deadlines are met
  • Oversee cash management, including bank reconciliations and cash flow tracking.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets and periodic forecasts in collaboration with asset management and property management teams.
  • Analyze budget-to-actual variance, provide explanations and recommendations; and assist with annual budgeting and forecasting.
  • Review abstract lease agreements for financial obligations, and manage common area maintenance (CAM) reconciliations and tenant billings, as applicable.
  • Support audits and tax preparation reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulations
  • Collaborate with property managers and leadership to provide financial insights.
