About The Position

The Project Management Office (PMO) Intern role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is a paid, full-time, temporary position designed to help students develop a broad knowledge of the Company and build the OSJL brand. Specifically, the PMO Intern role will spearhead a mission-critical project focused on modernizing how the PMO communicates project health and portfolio insights. The primary goal is to audit the current stakeholder engagement model, pilot AI-driven automation for status reporting, and design a project hub to help leadership identify strategic opportunities.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program is required, with strong academic credentials.
  • A fundamental understanding of the Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC) and how a PMO adds value to an organization.
  • Basic to intermediate experience with Google Suite (primarily Google Sheets) and PM software (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet).
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools and an interest in "Prompt Engineering" is highly relevant to the project goal.
  • Confidence in conducting interviews and asking "the right questions," combined with the ability to maintain focus on research and development.
  • Ability to provide a fresh perspective to legacy workflows by visualizing data for senior leadership.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule.
  • Must have reliable transportation to attend program educational experiences at different Company locations

Responsibilities

  • Audit the current stakeholder engagement model by conducting 1-on-1 interviews with stakeholders to identify hidden pain points.
  • Pilot AI-driven automation tools to streamline status reporting and improve business workflows.
  • Design or evaluate software that creates a project hub allowing PMO leadership to identify strategic project opportunities.
  • Utilize "Prompt Engineering" and Generative AI to improve the speed and efficiency of current communication workflows.
  • Translate complex, messy data into clear, visual, and actionable insights for senior leadership (Analytical Storytelling).
  • Prepare and deliver a final presentation to OSJL executive leadership and ownership at the conclusion of the program, summarizing key projects, insights, and achievements.
  • Participate in weekly educational programming and development workshops designed to enhance professional skills and industry knowledge.
  • Attend in-person and virtual events to build relationships across the Company.
  • Shadow associates to gain an understanding of department roles and assist with projects in furtherance of department objectives.
  • Acquire an understanding of the business environment, conduct, compliance, and ethics of a retail organization.
