The N280 Strategic Non-kinetic Effects Mission Center is seeking an experienced MITRE Project Lead to support an office in the Deputy Secretary of War office and work with other projects that support the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering. MITRE works to rapidly demonstrate and prototype to deliver game-changing strategic effects to solve critical operational challenges using a mission-driven and systems engineering approach. The MITRE D410 project has been established for over 10 years and continues to deliver high quality game-changing support to our sponsor. The MITRE D410 project leverages broad MITRE expertise to provide unbiased strategy, thought leadership, technology subject matter expertise and systems engineering analysis to inform studies, program, and recommendations to inform the Deputy Secretary of War strategies, in the area of Fires, AI and Special and Enabling capabilities. We are seeking an experienced MITRE Project Lead that will work with the support of MITRE leadership to shape and drive the overall MITRE project and other high priority thrust areas while leveraging their leadership skills and experience to guide the diverse Task Leads in their work with their individual government sponsors. As a project lead you will be part of the department leadership team to shape and drive impactful work to meet the OSD Division, DoD & Services Center, and MITRE National Security goals. An active DoD Top Secret with SCI and SAR clearance is required for all applicants.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • BA/BS in engineering, or related field
  • Experience managing projects and/or experience as a direct supervisor
  • Active Top Secret clearance with current SCI/SAR access and ability obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI/SAR clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Experience developing work programs, shaping work programs, and creating sponsor relationships, especially as related to system engineering, OSD work programs.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

  • Preference to current employees that are currently providing support to OSD projects or familiar with OSD R&E organization
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with active SAP access
  • Masters degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
  • Prior MITRE Task lead or Associate PL experience

Responsibilities

  • Work with N280 and other Division Project Leads, MITRE OSD Program Leadership, government leadership, and the D410 project and task leadership team to shape this portion of the MITRE work program and customer strategy following the mission value chain approach.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the customer's mission, environment and critical challenges and align MITRE tasks and capabilities to support their most critical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the project leadership team to assist the individual Task Leads to shape MITRE work objectives according to customer priority objectives and following the mission value chain approach.
  • Lead in identifying, improving the quality of, and ensuring the delivery of data-driven technical products in partnership with the individual task leads to support achievement of critical customer goals and outcomes.
  • Ensure proper resource allocation for planned execution (e.g., level of effort, dollars, and technical staff) in partnership with individual task leads.
  • Track overall project and individual task STE delivery and finances with the project leadership team, including project funding status, and take appropriate action as necessary to correct shortfalls or overruns.
  • Track and report project and individual task technical progress to MITRE OSD Program Leadership and project customers.
  • Assess customers’ and stakeholders’ perception of MITRE value and success to address shortcomings along with the project leadership team and task leads and in partnership with the MITRE OSD Program Leadership, when necessary.
  • Coordinate necessary staffing and hiring with OSD and relevant MITRE Labs Department Managers.
