About The Position

TRC is seeking a Project Environmental Engineer / Geologist to join our growing Engineering, Construction and Remediation Practice in Pittsburgh, PA. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, self-starting individual with 5 10 years of environmental consulting experience.

Requirements

  • B.S. in environmental engineering, geology, or related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of environmental consulting experience.
  • Demonstrates excellence and efficiency in technical writing, communication, data analysis and assessment, professional judgment, and knowledge of engineering and/or scientific principles.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, accountability, and work ethic.
  • Ability to work in the field and travel throughout the northeast states (including NC and north).
  • Strong quality assurance/quality control skills to perform technical and quality reviews of documents.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple project assignments.
  • Ability to work in a project team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional license: a Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred.
  • PE or PG (NY or PA) preferred
  • Experience in NYSDEC Standby Engineering Contract work a plus.
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Team communication: Work with Senior Project Managers to scope, cost, plan, and execute compliance, monitoring, investigation, and remediation projects (experience with PCB assessment and cleanup is preferred). Most importantly, a willingness to build a sustaining practice and engage in business development efforts including being active in professional organizations.
  • Practical application of engineering or geologic principles: Experience must involve the meaningful application of engineering/geologic principles through design, analysis, fieldwork, and other project tasks.
  • Preparation of technical specifications and design drawings in support of environmental remediation projects including remedial system design, vapor intrusion mitigation, remedial excavation, chemical injections, pilot tests and feasibility studies.
  • Conduct inspections of operating facilities (industrial and rail transportation facilities primarily) and prepare industrial stormwater permit applications (general and individual stormwater permits in NY, PA and other Northeastern states), sewer discharge permit applications, and petroleum and chemical bulk storage (CBS and PBS) registrations.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, schedules, invoices, sub-contractor procurement and oversight.
  • Technical writing: Demonstrated experience preparing technical reports, project documents, work plans, and health and safety plans, which may include but are not limited to: Remedial Investigation Work Plans and Reports; Interim Remedial Measures (IRM) Work Plans and Reports; Phase I/I Environmental Site Assessment Reports; Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs); Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans; Preparedness, Prevention and Contingency (PPC) Plans; Spill Prevention Reports (SPRs); and Facility Response Plans (FRPs).
  • Fieldwork and investigation: Experience leading (and managing) field activities for site characterization and remediation projects, including environmental media (i.e., soil, sediment, surface water, groundwater, soil vapor, etc.) sampling, logging soil/bedrock cores, indoor air and sub-slab vapor sampling, drilling oversight (boring advancement and well installation), and installation/operation/maintenance of remedial systems. Construction inspection/management experience a plus.
  • Data analysis: Strong skills in evaluating and interpreting field data including soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water, and indoor air/soil vapor data assessments; assisting with writing previously mentioned technical reports; and, preparing miscellaneous project documents. Candidate may also be requested to assist in the development of field work plans, health and safety plans, and community air monitoring plans.
  • Regulatory knowledge: An intermediate understanding of relevant environmental and safety regulations, such as OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, PA Regulations, NYSDEC Regulations (i.e., NYSDEC DER-10, 6 NYCRR Part 360, Part 375, Part 373, Title V, etc.), and NYSDOH Guidance for Evaluating Soil Vapor Intrusion to name a few.
  • Environmental assessment: Experience with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ASTM E1527); Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ASTM E1903); Remedial Investigation Work Plan preparation, implementation and oversight (Part 375); and various remediation technologies (i.e., soil vapor extraction, groundwater amendment injection, in-situ chemical oxidation [ISCO], etc.).
