CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Utility Design Project Engineer in our Houston office.

Requirements

  • Proficient in general understanding and practical experience; capable of working independently with growing efficiency.
  • 2+ years of professional experience
  • EIT or PE may be required.
  • Knowledge of standard engineering and scientific techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out tasks.
  • Familiarity with CobbFendley’s QA/QC Management System.
  • Skills including use of industry-standard computer software for the position (i.e., software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
  • Ability to use spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.

Responsibilities

  • Complete intermediate design and analysis tasks using determined software and criteria, under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
  • Work independently to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications of assignments.
  • Escalate unusual problems and work reviewed for application.
  • Utilize Company QA/QC processes and procedures to review tasks and documents.
  • Work with supervisor, project manager, mentors, and various internal personnel to complete assignments within discipline and other disciplines.
  • Utilize formal education and practical experience in assignments.
  • Attend internal or external training, as assigned.
  • Assist with onboarding and entry level training of Graduate Engineer I and II.
  • Work with internal clients daily, problem solve minor issues and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Attend client meetings.
  • Interface with clients to ensure excellent service and explore opportunities for additional assignments within Utility Design, SUE, Survey, and utility easement acquisition.
  • Perform project functions relating to production coordination, planning, organizing, directing, controlling, financial management, and marketing assistance.
  • Maintain and acquire knowledge of current concepts and principles required for Utility Design, such as engineering design or coordination tasks.
  • Respond to review letters and modify plans from agencies, municipalities, and clients as directed.
  • Identify existing utilities, establish contact with the utility companies, and attend utility coordination meetings.
  • Prepare Utility Agreement Assembly packages, including reviewing plans and estimates to evaluate compliance with guidelines, rules and regulations, determining eligibility and betterment ratios, and preparing documents required by 23 CFR Section 645.
  • Perform Conflict Investigations and provide relocation recommendations.
  • Perform Relocation Designs for utility infrastructure.
  • Create permit prints and obtain permit approvals for relative jurisdictions and/or railroad companies, pipeline companies.
  • Work with major utility companies such as AT&T, Zayo, Frontier, CenturyLink, Level 3, Spectrum, Centerpoint Energy, CenterPoint Gas, various pipeline companies, as well as state agencies and municipalities.
