About The Position

The Project Chief Quality Officer provides interim quality leadership and operational support to hospitals with critical quality leadership vacancies or urgent quality improvement needs. The Project Chief Quality Officer serves as the senior quality leader during assigned engagements and partners with hospital executives, medical staff, and corporate quality leadership to advance patient safety, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement initiatives. This role supports the implementation and stabilization of hospital quality programs, provides coaching and education to quality teams, and helps ensure alignment with organizational quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or other clinical discipline required
  • More than 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare quality management, patient safety, regulatory compliance, or performance improvement with at least five (5) in a CHS acute care hospital environment required
  • Experience leading hospital-wide quality improvement programs, regulatory readiness activities, and patient safety initiatives required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure or other clinical licensure required
  • CPHQ - Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality obtained within the two (2) of hire date required
  • Knowledge of healthcare quality management programs, including regulatory compliance, peer review, performance improvement, and patient safety practices.
  • Strong understanding of quality improvement methodologies and high reliability principles within healthcare organizations.
  • Ability to evaluate quality management programs, identify operational gaps, and implement effective improvement strategies.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with executives, clinicians, and operational leaders.
  • Ability to lead change initiatives and guide organizations through quality improvement and regulatory readiness efforts.
  • Ability to work effectively in dynamic environments requiring rapid assessment, prioritization, and implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively and reside temporarily at assigned facilities to support interim leadership assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Provides interim leadership for hospital quality programs during periods of leadership transition or urgent quality improvement needs.
  • Oversees implementation and management of facility quality improvement initiatives, including coordination of quality committees and monitoring of performance improvement activities.
  • Evaluates hospital quality management programs to identify opportunities related to patient safety, regulatory compliance, peer review, public reporting, and performance improvement.
  • Develops and implements corrective action plans and improvement strategies to address identified quality and safety gaps.
  • Partners with hospital executives, clinical leaders, and corporate quality teams to support achievement of organizational quality and patient safety goals.
  • Provides education and coaching to hospital leaders and staff on quality improvement methodologies, high reliability principles, and regulatory compliance practices.
  • Supports survey readiness activities and collaborates with internal teams to prepare hospitals for regulatory and accreditation surveys.
  • Provides orientation and mentorship for newly hired hospital quality leaders and quality staff.
  • Communicates quality performance trends, improvement activities, and barriers to hospital and corporate leadership.
  • Participates in corporate quality improvement initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
