About The Position

MAS Environmental (a NOVA Engineering & Environmental Company) is seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical Project Accounting Specialist to support the financial management of complex, multi‑disciplinary projects in our Tampa, FL office. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate project financials, compliant revenue recognition, and precise client billing across a diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment and collaborates closely with project managers and operational teams to drive financial performance.

  • Advanced knowledge of project accounting methodologies

  • Ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within project‑focused ERP systems (Deltek highly preferred)
  • Background in professional services, engineering, environmental, construction, or government‑contract environments
  • Experience handling complex, client‑specific billing requirements
  • Proven ability to manage billing disputes and resolve issues efficiently

Responsibilities

  • Apply strong knowledge of GAAP, with emphasis on revenue recognition requirements
  • Manage project accounting activities, including percent‑of‑completion, cost‑to‑cost, and milestone billing
  • Track and analyze budgets versus actuals, including labor, expenses, subcontractors, and overhead allocation
  • Perform project cost analysis and profitability forecasting
  • Prepare accurate, compliant, and client‑specific invoices, including those with insurance or government contract requirements
  • Calculate, apply, and maintain multiple billing rates across projects
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with varying billing structures (T&M, fixed fee, milestone‑based)
  • Identify unbilled work, potential write‑offs, and revenue recognition issues proactively
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and manage billing disputes
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, field staff, and corporate teams to ensure financial accuracy
