About The Position

The Project Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the development and oversight of the corporate back-office day-to-day accounting operations for Quanta Services’ capital expansion projects during the construction phase. This role supports leading the project accounting function, coordinates the work of the project accountants and accounts payable staff. She/he supports the determination of proper cost classification and capitalization, the management of intercompany processes, and maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting. The Project Accounting Manager works cross-functionally with Project Controls, Treasury, Tax, and Quanta’s Operating Units to ensure financial integrity, adherence to U.S. GAAP, and compliance with internal controls and corporate policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including capital projects or manufacturing accounting
  • Experience supervising accounting staff
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP
  • ERP experience required (JDE preferred)
  • Professional Accounting Certification (CPA or Chartered Accountant) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and perform day-to-day project accounting activities, including accounts payable processing, cost coding, capitalization, and intercompany transactions.
  • Manage and oversee the work of Project Accountants and A/P clerks, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and/or plays an integral role in the capitalization process including monthly capital vs. expense analysis, fixed asset setup, WIP review, and asset transfers to operating units upon project completion.
  • Prepare or review/approve intercompany billings, account reconciliations, roll forwards and journal entries, including profit elimination entries, ensuring proper documentation and accuracy in consolidated reporting.
  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly project accruals, review open POs, vendor correspondence, and unbilled cost estimates.
  • Ensure accuracy of cost forecasting inputs by working closely with Project Controls and FP&A and provide key financial insights to leadership.
  • Support the development and maintenance of standardized accounting procedures, controls, and reporting templates for construction project operations.
  • Prepare and/or review variance analysis and financial statements for capital projects.
  • Partner with Project Controls to support PO issuance, approval workflows, vendor management, and commitment tracking.
  • Support Treasury and Project Controls in developing cash forecasts and managing project-level funding requirements.
  • Work closely with Tax to ensure proper sales/use tax treatment, exemption certificate management, and capitalization of eligible tax amounts.
  • Serve as key point of contact for internal and external auditors for project-related accounting topics.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process automation, workflow enhancements, and internal control strengthening.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities adhere to Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements.
