About The Position

A nationally recognized commercial general contractor specializing in high-end hospitality construction is seeking a Project Accountant to support the financial management of multiple construction projects. This role plays a key role in ensuring accurate project billing, subcontractor payments, and financial reporting, while working closely with project managers and leadership to track project financial progress. Reporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Project Executives, and accounting leadership to ensure projects remain financially organized, compliant, and on track. Based in the Deerfield Beach office, the Project Accountant will support multiple projects simultaneously and ensure the accurate management of financial documentation, billing processes, and project cost tracking.

Requirements

  • 5+ years working as a Project Accountant for a General Contractor
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience working within the construction or general contracting industry strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of project billing, accounts payable, and financial tracking
  • Proficiency in Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ComputerEase preferred
  • Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management platforms is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain project financial records and documentation for assigned projects
  • Input project contract information, budgets, purchase orders, and change orders into the accounting system
  • Track project financial performance through reporting and analysis
  • Monitor financial progress to ensure compliance with company and contractual guidelines
  • Support month-end close activities related to project accounts receivable and payable
  • Prepare project billing worksheets to support the creation of monthly AIA billings
  • Generate owner billings and ensure timely submission
  • Process job-related invoices and accounts payable
  • Review and approve project-related check requests
  • Review overhead statements to confirm job-related invoices are properly recorded and processed
  • Attend project turnover meetings and monthly project review meetings
  • Maintain electronic project folders, including owner documents, billing records, and change orders
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Project Executives, and Project Coordinators to resolve documentation or billing issues
  • Ensure project financial documentation is accurate, organized, and up to date
  • Prepare and submit weekly Project Accountant checklists and financial updates to accounting leadership
  • Provide timely communication regarding any financial discrepancies or issues
  • Assist accounting leadership with special projects as needed
  • Support project closeout financial activities
