The Opportunity The Project Accountant is responsible for managing financial aspects of assigned projects, including budget monitoring, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting. This position works closely with project managers, operations teams, and the accounting department to ensure accurate project financials, compliance with contract requirements, and timely invoicing. The Project Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining project profitability and providing financial analysis to support decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field OR relavant work experience
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in project accounting or construction accounting
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of GAAP and project accounting principles
  • Knowledge of sales tax

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with construction or federal contracting accounting
  • Familiarity with job costing and project management software
  • Experience with government contract billing and compliance

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track project costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead allocations
  • Prepare and process project billing and invoicing in accordance with contract terms and client requirements
  • Maintain accurate project financial records and job cost accounting
  • Reconcile project budgets to actual costs and identify variances
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports and forecasts
  • Review and process project-related accounts payable and expense reports
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure accurate cost coding and budget tracking
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes for project accounting
  • Support project audits and provide documentation as required
  • Analyze project profitability and prepare financial analysis reports
  • Ensure compliance with contract billing requirements and federal/state regulations
  • Maintain relationships with clients regarding billing inquiries and payment issues
  • Assist with budget preparation and forecasting for new and ongoing projects
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of project accounting systems
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned
