The Project Accountant supports the financial accuracy, operational partnership, and continuous improvement efforts of the organization’s craft businesses, ensuring projects are managed profitably and efficiently. This role maintains reliable project financials, oversees timely month end completion, and serves as a strategic partner to Operations by providing thoughtful analysis, forecasting, and guidance. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple craft-focused teams. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a construction or job‑costing environment.
  • Advanced mathematical and logical reasoning skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem solving abilities.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills required.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong ability to work independently while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong working relationships.
  • Knowledge of Viewpoint software.
  • A positive attitude - with the ability to have fun and contribute to a strong team culture!

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of project contracts and change order processes is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review project budget changes and enter updates into project accounting software.
  • Ensure all month end project accounting tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Independently analyze and review job costs, cash flow, billings, budgets, and project forecasts for craft business projects.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping for all contract documents, including contracts, change orders, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure projects are forecasted accurately and maintained in a positive cash-flow position.
  • Perform monthly job cost reviews and variance analysis.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Close out project accounts upon completion.
  • Serve as a key business partner to the Operations teams within the craft businesses, providing financial insights and support related to project performance.
  • Participate in monthly project operations meetings.
  • Ensure Operations, internal teams, and external partners receive exceptional value-added financial service through high-quality deliverables.
  • Assist with and lead special projects related to automation, technology, and process improvements to increase speed and accuracy.
  • Contribute to defining and enhancing key financial processes and workflows.
  • Provide support and training to internal users regarding job cost systems and project management software.
  • Develop and mentor team members, fostering ongoing learning and growth.
  • Model effective risk management and safety practices across all project accounting activities.
