About The Position

The Project Accountant ensures accurate project setup and compliance by reviewing client contract documentation and inputting data into the project accounting system in accordance with contract terms and corporate guidelines. This role manages invoicing processes, supports subconsultant invoice payments, executes project closeout activities, and provides detailed analysis and research to respond to internal and external client inquiries. Additionally, the Project Accountant serves as a liaison during audits, analyzes work-in-process and accounts receivable, and contributes to the implementation and testing of new departmental software. As a subject matter expert, they offer guidance to peers and assist with system maintenance and troubleshooting in collaboration with IT.

Requirements

  • Billing experience within an engineering or architectural firm.
  • Experience working with project managers to track deadlines and milestones.
  • Understanding of lumpsum and time & materials billing.
  • Proficient in Deltek Vantagepoint.
  • Experience with change orders.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, Vlookups, Sumif's, and Index Match.
  • 3+ years of project billing experience within an engineering or architectural company with revenue over $200 million.
  • 3+ years of experience creating invoices for multi-million dollar projects.
  • 3+ years of change orders experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Macros in Excel.
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or a business-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Support subconsultant invoice payments.
  • Execute project closeout activities, including complex reconciliations.
  • Provide detailed analysis and research to respond to client inquiries.
  • Serve as a liaison during audits.
  • Analyze work-in-process and accounts receivable.
  • Contribute to the implementation and testing of new departmental software.
  • Offer guidance to peers and assist with system maintenance and troubleshooting.
