About The Position

The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) has an opportunity for you to lead transformative programming that supports rehabilitation and growth as a Programming Unit Caseworker. Requirements

  • Associate's degree in criminal justice, behavioral science, human services or related field OR two years of experience working with persons referred through the legal system.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Transcripts required prior to appointment.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coordinating and working with volunteer programs to include scheduling, managing waiting lists and having professional interactions with community partners.
  • Experience in interpreting and enforcing laws, rules, regulations, and processes, reviewing, and evaluating administrative records and reports.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
  • Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish desired and assessed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee clubs, assist with programs and meetings for incarcerated individuals.
  • Collaborate with outside organizations and facilitators to bring programs to the institution.
  • Work closely with other staff members to facilitate programming in the institution.
  • Enter necessary data for record-keeping into various computer programs.
  • Supervise the Inmate Peer Support program.
