About The Position

JOB SUMMARY Investigate referrals of child abuse/neglect under PA Juvenile Act, Child Protective Services Law, and agency policy. Provide emergency/short-term services and recommend long-term service planning. Reports directly to unit supervisor.

Requirements

  • Six months as Caseworker Trainee OR completion of County Intern Program OR Bachelors in social welfare OR Bachelor's with 12 credits in social sciences + 1 year casework experience OR Equivalent combination of education/experience with 12 social science credits.
  • Strong understanding of PA child welfare laws/regulations.
  • Knowledge of child abuse/neglect indicators, child development, family dynamics.
  • Crisis intervention skills.
  • Clear written/verbal communication; ability to testify in court.
  • Strong organization, time management, flexibility, and teamwork.
  • Pre-employment drug screening.
  • Background checks: FBI, PA State Police, ChildLine.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must have the ability to transport self to various locations for meetings, visits and other appointments.
  • This position will require the ability to conduct home visits and other appointments and to access those locations with reasonable accommodations.
  • This position has been identified as having the potential for exposure to Hepatitis B.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure child safety through timely assessments and referrals.
  • Investigate allegations of mistreatment/neglect for children under 18.
  • Interview families, children, and collateral contacts.
  • Conduct safety assessments, create safety plans, arrange emergency placements if needed.
  • Develop service plans and transfer cases to ongoing units.
  • Maintain documentation (risk assessments, petitions, service plans, etc.).
  • Collaborate with team members and attend staff meetings.
  • Provide own transportation for home visits and appointments.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends.
