About The Position

This entry-level full-stack software development position is part of the team that develops and supports information systems for the Florida Lottery. You will contribute to the development, configuration, and delivery of new information systems and interfaces, as well as the daily support, maintenance, and enhancement of existing information systems and interfaces. You will be working on large-scale applications using a wide range of modern development tools and technologies including Oracle DBMS, PL/SQL, JAVA, Oracle APEX, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), JavaScript, jQuery, Ajax, Azure DevOps, Git/GitHub, XML/REST/JSON, and Web Services. With regular supervision, you will work closely with stakeholders, analysts, and team members to understand business requirements and help identify appropriate, cost-effective technical options. You will work individually and in teams on assigned tasks across the full systems life cycle, including planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and support. This may include providing systems support on an on-call basis outside of regular business hours. You will have opportunities to learn new technologies and expand your skills to enable you to work on more complex projects and take on increased levels of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern information systems concepts and terminology
  • Knowledge of software engineering life cycle methodologies.
  • Knowledge of programming languages, JAVA preferred
  • Knowledge of relational database concepts and techniques
  • Knowledge of data feeds and data parsing using various XML technologies and SQL
  • Experience with systems analysis and design
  • Experience with full stack development, Java, Oracle and PL/SQL preferred
  • Experience developing technical documentation, specifications, and reports
  • Ability to learn, use, understand, and integrate new software and hardware technologies
  • Ability to communicate effectively to non-technical staff and management
  • Ability to think logically and to analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to identify, analyze and define user system needs
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships
  • Ability Plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent years of experience).
  • Up to four (4) years of application development experience.
  • Successful passing of a criminal background check (state, local, and national) is required).
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of information learned while working with the Florida Lottery, whether learned through assigned duties or through working with other units. The types of confidential information may include, but are not limited to, payroll information, budget matters, policy decisions, tax matters, employee disciplinary issues, and other personnel data.
  • Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of the Lottery’s Responsible Gaming program, including the No Underage Play and Play Within Your Means messaging, and will ensure retailers and players are aware of the program and provided information, as necessary.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team developing applications and components using Agile methodologies
  • Review and understand documented business requirements and technical specifications
  • Use no-code, low-code tools including Oracle APEX to develop and test applications
  • Develop and test multi-tier database-driven Java applications and components
  • Develop web solutions using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks, and other tools
  • Design, configure, and use ETL tools and process to analyze, manipulate, and integrate data
  • Define and complete unit and system level testing
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Work as part of a team on user acceptance tests
  • Work as part of a team on production deployments
  • Provide support for assigned production systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
  • Provides consultation and technical assistance to members of the Lottery staff
  • Learn about the Lottery’s system business operations
  • Develop and grow relevant technical expertise and skills
  • Performs other duties as assigned
