About The Position

This position is located at 1117 Trinity St, Austin, TX in the Skills Development Outreach department. TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas. A self-starter with a strong motivation to improve the way youth in Texas make job, career and educational decisions by providing useful and reliable information about careers, educational training options and jobs. You will provide key economic data about occupations and in-demand industries along with information about labor market trends and economic conditions to help job seekers, employers, economic development entities and local workforce development boards make informed choices. The Program Specialist IV performs highly complex (senior-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time experience in the development, implementation, or interpretation of policies and procedures in a public or private agency.
  • Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Secondary or post-secondary education or counseling/advising experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to address a public audience is necessary.
  • Ability to travel throughout Texas 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a broad array of highly complex in-service training, marketing and product development services with an emphasis on serving the middle school and secondary education community.
  • Conduct in-service presentations at school Career Days, Career Fairs, conferences, and related events to students, parents, teachers, counselors, etc. on trends in the Texas labor market, how those trends affect student preparation, the importance of education to all students, TWC career information resources, and related topics.
  • Develop presentation and marketing materials in the areas of career counseling, information and development.
  • Prepare PowerPoint slides, handouts, curricula, and other visual aides to facilitate better communication of labor market trends, and the use of Workforce Development Division (WDD) and other career development materials, to diverse student and education audiences.
  • Update existing and author new written brochures, promotional materials, articles and guides regarding subject matter in career choice and preparation, college selection, the use of automated career information materials and software, and other related fields with a focus on career and labor market information, and informed education and career decision-making.
  • Lead inter-agency coordination efforts to better align career information tools, projects and career guidance. Coordinate with Local Workforce Boards to identify and promulgate best practices in career and technology programs, multi-agency cooperation efforts and access to meaningful information for education and career decision-making.
  • Develop a collaborative marketing strategy to formalize ongoing coordination efforts between TWC, Texas Education Agency, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and local educational institutions and document activities or initiatives that do and might add value to student career decision-making.
  • Attend conferences and meetings on behalf of TWC and WDD serving as a workshop presenter or facilitator and promoting the products and services of the WDD and its partner agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
