Job Description: Training Specialist Purpose: Coordinates training activities to include development of curriculum and delivery of job specific training to meet departmental initiatives.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic training and learning principles.
Knowledge of instructional systems design methods.
Knowledge of City practice, policy, and procedures.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Skill in using computers and related software.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Ability to facilitate and deliver training.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to lead and train others.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of experience in a technical training environment.
Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licensing for specific disciplines may be required.

Nice To Haves

Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) for a minimum of 2 years without any suspensions, revocations, or disqualifications, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
CDL endorsements such as bus, passenger, hazardous material, tanker, and double and triple trailers, with experience training others on any of these vehicles
Knowledge of DOT commercial vehicle rules and regulations, and DPS CDL Compliance and Regulations
Experience conducting Entry Level Driver Training and/or Third-Party Skills Testing Examiner certification for Class A or B commercial vehicles
Experience training individuals on manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles
Experience training other employees in an operational organization that involves heavy equipment or commercial vehicles
Experience delivering presentations and/or facilitating engaging training sessions
Experience utilizing MS Office Suite, Workday, SharePoint, or any Learning Management Systems
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
Ability to travel to more than one work location

Responsibilities

Surveys various training techniques, materials, and commercial offerings to select the most appropriate process for the delivery of training.
Delivers targeted, audience-appropriate instructor-led training sessions.
Coordinates student and facility schedules for delivery of training and maintains and prepares appropriate records of participation.
Develops written training materials, visual aids, and reference materials, including course curriculums.
Performs preproduction, production, and postproduction work on computer- and video- training materials that use computer and streaming audio-visual technologies for on-demand use.
Develops and administers assessments of staff skills for use in developing training strategies and curriculum, and effectiveness of delivery.
Conducts research or surveys to determine the effectiveness of training provided.
May lead and train others.
