About The Position

Broetje Family Trust is an association of three foundations collectively stewarding a family legacy of "bearing fruit that will last" through servant leadership, community building, and philanthropy. We commit to: 1) live and teach the ethic of Christ-centered service through servant leadership development; 2) nurture and create new communities of healing and mutual service locally and internationally; and 3) place resources at the service of those communities. Global Grants is an initiative of Broetje Family Trust and is housed under Vista Hermosa Foundation, the philanthropy branch of the Trust. Global Grants partners with organizations committed to place-based, community-led development that promotes healing and reconciliation for both people and the planet. The Program Officer reports directly to the Philanthropy and Social Justice Director and collaborates with initiatives across the Trust to steward our organizational culture, learning and impact. This position will manage a portfolio of international grants in Latin America and the Caribbean. Primary work hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm with a 1-hr of unpaid lunch break. Occasional early morning or late evening meetings may be needed to meet global partners' time zones.

Requirements

  • 5 years of professional experience in international community development, philanthropy, or other relevant fields.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, community engagement and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in Spanish (written and oral) are required.
  • Excellent project management and time management skills to efficiently meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills to be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Experience working across cultures and/or working internationally.
  • Willingness to travel internationally approximately 2-3 times per year.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the grants program within specific portfolios
  • Analyze grant proposals and create written summaries for Grants Committee review.
  • Support team to develop and manage overall grant workflow for full grant lifecycle, from inquiries and applications through approval, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensure granting process and systems comply with all relevant legal state and Federal regulations.
  • Help foster strong relationships with partner organizations, within your portfolio, in line with trust-based philanthropy goals and desired impacts per our Statement of Faith in Action.
  • Serve as an informal advisor and thought partner to applicants, grant recipients and community partners to strengthen planning and implementation efforts, and connect partners to training, technical assistance and other capacity building opportunities and partners.
  • Identify and develop relationships with potential new grant partners.
  • Advances the team's efforts to enhance grant-making quality and impact to support data-informed decision-making and action including:
  • Conduct program reviews and prepare quarterly reports capturing stories of impact and lessons learned.
  • Prepare and track metrics, reports, dashboards and grantees and partners' insights.
  • Conduct research on trends and best practices in grantmaking, philanthropy, international development, and peer-donor engagement.
  • Share learnings and communicate key finds to the Director, providing clear analysis relative to our Theory of Community Change.
  • Create opportunities for cross-learning and collaboration within the portfolios.
  • Develop best practices to improve overall program portfolio performance.
  • Bring people together to nurture connections, share knowledge, and illuminate stories of impact, including:
  • Develop and implement grantees and partners engagement plan.
  • Maintain frequent communications with program partners.
  • Set annual calendar for international site visits, convenings in our countries of focus, and hosted events at Leo Center.
  • Provide leadership as needed when hosting gathering, including learning goals, intended audience(s), and expected outcomes.
  • Work with the team to plan and implement gatherings that align with the Trust's commitment to Faith in Action and transformational change in community.
  • Engage the philanthropic field as a thought partner and resource, inviting dialogue about engagement, illuminating the work of our partners and facilitating connections with others.
  • Collaborate with Central Services team to maintain the accuracy of the grants management database, including grants distributed through Global Grants.
  • Ensure accurate end-of-year financial reports for expenditure responsibility grants on specific portfolio.
  • Collaborate with Communications team to ensure websites, newsletters, and related social media are current and accurate and that regular stories of impact are created and shared.
  • Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities for programs on specific portfolio.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
