Under indirect supervision, the GME Program Manager – Rural Residency Programs oversees the operational planning, establishment, execution, and evaluation of rural graduate medical education initiatives administered through the Office of Graduate Medical Education at the University of New Mexico. This position manages a multifaceted program consisting of rural residency rotations and associated initiatives funded through state appropriations, federal grants, and other external funding sources. The Program Manager is responsible for operational, administrative, and programmatic management of rural GME initiatives and serves as the primary liaison between UNM GME leadership, University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH), residency programs, rural training sites, and external partners. The position ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements including those from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), while supporting the development and sustainability of rural physician training programs aligned with UNM’s mission to improve health care access across New Mexico. The Program Manager provides operational leadership, in partnership with GME Fiscal and UNMH Financial Office, assists in managing budgets and funding streams, oversees program staff and operational processes, and develops systems to track rural rotations, funding utilization, and program outcomes.
