About The Position

The mission of the Internal Investigations Branch (IIB) is to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky by receiving and investigating allegations involving neglect and, or, abuse of juveniles committed to, or in the custody of, the Department of Juvenile Justice and investigating administrative violations within the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet as determined by the Cabinet Secretary. Investigators work solo and as a team to investigate the most sensitive allegations of misconduct within the Justice Cabinet. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Conducts complex, in-depth, sensitive investigations as assigned by the Justice & Public Safety Cabinet using standard investigative interviewing techniques. Interviews employees, managers, executives, contractors, vendors, citizens, and public officials to determine and analyze facts to conclude whether departmental policies have been followed or if Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRSs) have been violated. Investigates serious accidents and internal affairs incidents to determine if policy, procedural or criminal violations were involved. Summarizes investigative findings in standardized reports. Maintain current knowledge of general policy, procedure, regulations, and statutes. Testify in judicial, administrative, and, or, personnel board hearings as required. Interacts with Departmental and Cabinet personnel, law enforcement, and the public. This position provides a unique opportunity to work with the many different departments and agencies within the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The ideal candidate will have: An established and extensive law enforcement based investigative background. A high moral character with an emphasis on integrity and professionalism. A willingness to aggressively investigate allegations of misconduct within the Justice Cabinet. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to handle a caseload. Ability to provide various complex investigation services. Good written and oral communication skills.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Must have four years of experience in the field of investigation, administrative, business, or social work/eligibility experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license prior employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
