About The Position

The College of Health Professions & Medical Sciences offers interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs through the Schools of Podiatric Medicine, Nursing, Mental Health and Social Work along with departments in Health Sciences, Physician Assistant Studies, and Emergency Management, as well as mental health and podiatry clinics. To develop essential skills and gain insight into diverse healthcare practices and career pathways, students interact with practicing professionals in our community and across strategic partnerships. Our dynamic curriculum, immersive clinical experiences, and a commitment to service, so our graduates are fully prepared to succeed in the complex healthcare ecosystem. The Barry University Physician Assistant Program educates students in the practice of collaborative medicine and encourages life-long learning and professional development. It fosters a technology rich environment and clinical training experiences among diverse patient populations. The Program enables students to develop competencies required to meet the health care needs of contemporary society. The Program Director reports directly to the Executive Dean of the College of Health Professions and Medical Sciences. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director for our Physician Assistant Program. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a commitment to academic excellence, and a passion for advancing the physician assistant profession. The Director will have a chance to make a significant impact on the future of healthcare. The Director will ensure high standards of education, compliance with accreditation requirements, and the smooth operation of all program activities. We are committed to preparing future healthcare leaders through a comprehensive curriculum, clinical practice opportunities, a supportive learning interdisciplinary environment. This position is full-time on site at the main campus, Miami Shores.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field; Doctorate preferred.
  • Current NCCPA certification and active state licensure as a physician assistant.
  • Minimum of five years of clinical experience as a physician assistant.
  • At least three years of administrative or leadership experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accreditation processes, ARC-PA and best educational practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to an interdisciplinary educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Physician Assistant Program at both sites.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum to ensure alignment with current best practices and accreditation standards.
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty performance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Manage program budgets, resources, and operations to achieve institutional goals.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with clinical sites, stakeholders, and professional organizations to enhance student learning and career opportunities.
  • Advocate for the program within the institution and the broader community, promoting the value of physician assistants in healthcare.
  • Ensure compliance with all accreditation requirements and maintain programmatic accreditation status.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and contribute to the ongoing development of the profession.
  • Able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment of growth.
