The Principal Faculty (NCCPA Certified) position for the MSPAS Program at the University of the Cumberlands is a full-time, twelve-month faculty appointment reporting directly to the Program Director. The principal faculty member is responsible for teaching, curriculum development, student assessment, and participation in program governance and ongoing program evaluation in accordance with ARC-PA Standards.

Requirements

  • Successful completion and earned degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Studies Program.
  • Current NCCPA certification and eligibility for (or possession of) state licensure as a Physician Assistant in Kentucky.
  • Maintenance of certification and licensure is required and supported in accordance with institutional policy and ARC-PA Standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a practicing PA and/or prior experience in PA or health professions education preferred.
  • Experience in higher education teaching or curriculum development.
  • Experience in outcomes assessment, program evaluation, or accreditation processes.
  • Experience mentoring graduate-level students.
  • Scholarly activity consistent with institutional expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participating in the selection of applicants for admission to the PA program
  • Providing student instruction and supervision/assessment of student progress in achieving the student course learning outcomes in the didactic and/or clinical phases of the program as required by curricular need.
  • Promoting student retention through active participation in advising, academic counseling, and remediation of students in both didactic and clinical phases of the curriculum.
  • Actively participating in course planning, development, delivery and review.
  • Actively participating in the development, review and revision of the program’s mission statement, goals and competencies as necessary.
  • Contributing to the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum in collaboration with the Program Director and respective phase directors.
  • Actively participating in the program’s ongoing self-assessment process, including data review, analysis, action planning, and documentation as required by ARC-PA Standards.
  • Actively participating in preparation for ARC-PA accreditation activities, including documentation, report writing, policy review, and participation in site visits as assigned.
  • Participating in program, departmental, and institutional committees as assigned
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development directly related to PA education and clinical practice to maintain expertise and instructional effectiveness.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director consistent with the mission and needs of the MSPAS program and sponsoring institution.
