The Waterfront Manager is responsible for all the campers and staff at the waterfront by maintaining the safety of all waterfront participants, including swimmers and boaters. The Waterfront Director will also serve in other areas around camp, including various Program operations. About the role: Training & Meetings Complete all required pre-camp training to the satisfaction of the Program Manager and Divisional Youth Officers. Participate and complete trainings for specialized, sports, and challenge activities. Participate in all regularly scheduled staff meetings and assigned evaluations with leadership staff. Carry out all Recreation Counselor assignments as directed by the Program Manager. Waterfront Management Supervise all waterfront activities. Report any problems to the Program Manager. Supervise the lifeguards and waterfront aides. Maintain the physical condition of the docks, boats, and swimming area. Protect boats from destruction by campers and staff, and during storms. Report any problems to the Camp Director. Assign lifeguards and waterfront aides to rotation schedule on water, pontoons, canoes, etc. See that the boats and pontoons are used correctly. Develop and supervise the swimming instruction program for campers and camp staff and the American Red Cross records. Develop swimming program in conjunction with the Program and Operations Director for each encampment. All equipment is to be set out at the appropriate stations (canoes, boats, safety gear, swim area, etc.) ahead of scheduled start time. Ensure equipment is in proper working order on a daily, weekly, and summer basis. Load and dispatch boats as assigned. Be responsible for pontoon rides and care and protection of pontoon as assigned. Help maintain a high standard of safety and conduct around the waterfront. Before leaving for the day, all areas are to be cleaned and all debris (paper. Towels, articles of clothing, etc.) and garbage are to be removed from the area. Report any broken equipment or safety concerns to the Waterfront Director. Make assignments for self and staff to maintain standard of personal ability by conducting training daily which will consist of laps and safety drills. Prepare inventory and summary of season's work at the end of summer. Additional Responsibilities Teach, lead, and supervise campers in assigned challenge, specialized, and sports activities. Ensure all activities are conducted safely, effectively, and in alignment with camp goals. Help with setup and cleanup for program areas and activities as assigned. Help with the planning and implementation of evening programs, special events, and waterfront operations as needed. Support childcare responsibilities when assigned. Accept responsibility for the health, safety, and general welfare of all campers under your supervision. Supervise and guide campers in all phases of the camping program - spiritual, recreational, and social. Take responsibility for camper supervision during all activities, ensuring campers are in their assigned classes, following instructions, and participating safely and respectfully. Assist with the management of campers during all program areas, including classes, challenges, sports, and special activities. Keep personal living quarters neat and clean at all times. Attend and assist with all camp activities, programs, and ceremonies (including flag-raising and lowering). Participate in worship services, staff devotions, and Sunday services held on and off the campgrounds. Help maintain and strengthen the spiritual emphasis of the ministry of The Salvation Army - Army Lake Camp. Maintain a servant attitude and function as part of a unified team. Always set a positive Christian example in speech, attitude, and behavior. Dedicate personal time each day for devotions and spiritual growth. Perform all other duties as assigned to support the mission and success of the camp.
