Requirements

  • Previous waterfront experience.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Team player, with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to work with co-workers and the public in a positive and friendly manner and resolve conflicts as needed.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
  • 21+ years old.
  • High School degree or GED or working towards completion of high school.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with supervisor and the Department Director to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
  • Works with supervisor to create and implement procedures and/or programs and/or curriculum while ensuring safety, licensing standards, and the Y's reputation and providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Collaborates with staff in providing a welcoming, encouraging, and accessible program experience in which campers feel supported as they develop confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Supervises and actively engages with participants with a patient and kind demeanor, fostering appropriate behavior management and embracing working with youth in quick-to-change environments.
  • Promptly shares any camper related concerns or behavioral issues with supervisor to ensure participants well being
  • Provides advice and guidance on water safety to patrons. Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and connects participants to the YMCA.
  • Maintains a clean and safe program environment. Ensures ongoing surveillance, compliance with health and safety regulations including rescue equipment safety, and meeting the standard of care.
  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds calmly to emergency situations including water rescues, and administers first aid and CPR as needed. Responds in accordance with Y policies and trainings. Completes related reports as required.
  • Ensures patron safety by vigilantly monitoring activities, spotting potential hazards (including rough or dangerous play), and promptly addressing them.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities.
  • Performs other tasks and projects as assigned.
