About The Position

The Coordinator Patient Care - Total Joint & Spine Center (TJSC), with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The Coordinator Patient Care - Total Joint & Spine Center (TJSC) functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of nursing practice.7 The Coordinator Patient Care - Total Joint & Spine Center (TJSC) demonstrates responsibility for continued competence in nursing practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning.

Requirements

  • BSN required or currently enrolled in BSN program with graduation within six (6) months of assigned position.
  • Licensure: Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse
  • Certifications: Orthopedic Nurse Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of hire. Membership to the professional organization National Association of Orthopedic Nurses(NAON) will be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Required to complete eight (8) hours of hospital provided continuing education hours upon hire and annually. Education will focus on management/care of total hip, knee andshoulder replacement as well as elective spine surgery patients.
  • Required to obtain eight (8) continuing education hours through NAON annually.

  • One (1) year of leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting in the daily operations of their assigned areas (e.g., through-put, patient concerns, staff concerns, room assignments, data collection, process flow, etc.)
  • Responsible for the communication, growth and development of their set spans of control.
  • Responsible for quality management audits and related analysis of data.
  • Responsible for coordinating all of the care and activities related to TJSC patients
  • Responsible for communication and relationship building through shared decision making and stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of healthcare environment demonstrated in practice knowledge, outcome measurement and knowledge of quality improvement metrics.
  • Serve as a change agent through leadership and participation in various activities such as committees, task forces, projects, and organizational strategic planning meetings. Assist to identify what changes should be made and can influence the necessary policy, procedures or legislation to create the change.
