About The Position

This position is responsible for planning and implementing the annual calendar for State Youth Council (SYC) and Youth Advisory Council (YAC), and for assisting the Youth Program Coordinator III with planning and implementing the North Carolina State Government Internship Program and Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program. The SYC works to involve youth in community affairs, to foster youth leadership development, and to provide a voice for youth in North Carolina by coordinating local youth councils across the state, assisting newly organized local councils, and sponsoring youth leadership conferences/conventions and other activities. SYC co-hosts four annual convenings, including Service-Learning Day, Mini-Grant, and Teambuilding Conferences and a Spring Convention. The YAC is the SYC’s advisory body and is comprised of 10 adults appointed by the Governor and 10 youth members elected by SYC. This position provides administrative and programmatic support to the SYC and YAC and is the key person responsible for coordinating the State Youth Council Mini Grant program. Assignments include administering programs, preparing program documentation, preparing agendas and meeting minutes, representing the Division for Women and Youth to the public, conducting outreach and education, researching information, planning conferences, making logistical arrangements including travel and accommodations for council members, preparing and disseminating newsletters, anticipating the conditions that may require immediate attention and then handling them, keeping DW&Y management and council chairs informed, and other duties as assigned. This position supports statewide strategies to engage North Carolina students through positive youth programming, including the State Youth Councils (serving 4,000+ youth), the State Internship Program (serving 100+ students and 50+ state agencies), and the Lady Cardinal Program, which fosters career exploration and leadership development for middle school girls. The Program Coordinator II provides essential administrative and program support to sustain statewide services and assist members, boards, and youth leaders. This role builds awareness, expands outreach, and increases the number of youth councils across North Carolina, to broaden access to leadership, community engagement, and civic participation opportunities that promote academic success. Positive program development is achieved via community and school-based programs. The individual hired into this position will handle logistics and materials of multiple conferences and events. Additional duties as assigned. Candidate must be willing to travel.
