About The Position

THIS POSITION IS REPOSTED - Previous applicants are still under consideration and do not need to reapply The person in this position will supervise the County School Bus Maintenance Program to include vehicles, equipment, and grounds. Monitor, evaluate, and assure compliance with Office of Transportation maintenance standards. Assure that all personnel follow proper safety procedures. Assure that school buses are inspected and operated in a safe condition. Assist district in school bus routing and scheduling; daily review GPS data for all vehicles assigned to the shop and take immediate appropriate actions to enhance safety, operating efficiency, and reduce emissions; and monitor final plans for compliance with State laws. Assure that the school bus driver salary data and other district data is collected and submitted as required. Maintain and prepare complete, accurate, and timely financial reports, assure cost effectiveness of Shop operation; analyze inventory, maintenance services, overtime, and job performance to ensure cost effectiveness of program. Be responsible for the staffing and supervision of shop employees, including the solicitation, evaluation, and selection of potential employees. Supervise the instruction and training of new employees in all appropriate State and Department policies and procedures, assure proper interpretation and understanding of all applicable policies and procedures by employees, and periodically evaluate employees using the state Employee Performance Manager System (EPMS). Via the school district, meet with and instruct new and existing bus drivers about their impact on overall school bus service program. Provide information on the proper operation of the vehicle to increase safety and reduce maintenance costs. Also work with district personnel to reduce repairs associated with non-normal wear damage. Periodically meet and confer with school officials and parents to interpret State laws pertaining to public school transportation. Have a knowledge of pupil transportation laws and understand their implementation. Conduct accident investigations and work with school officials to prevent the recurrence of a similar accident and unnecessary bus damage (bus vandalism and driver abuse). Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
  • Required to lift objects weighing 25 pounds and to move objects weighing 125 pounds 30 feet.
  • Must be able to operate computer/printer equipment using Microsoft Office for Windows software.
  • Must possess or acquire within 120 calendar days a Class A or B CDL with passenger and air brakes endorsements.
  • Successful candidates will be extended an offer of conditional probationary employment, at which time they will be required to submit to and pass a drug screening for illegal drugs and must pass the SDE/USDOT medical exam.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of experience in transportation programs; or a bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in any relevant program area.
