About The Position

To assist the Kansas State Department of Education in carrying out the Kansas State Board of Education mission, we are recruiting for a Program Consultant on the Child Nutrition and Wellness team. The child nutrition consultant is responsible for completing federally required oversight for local sponsors of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Programs (CNP) as assigned. This is accomplished by conducting administrative reviews. The incumbent also provides consultative services, technical assistance and training to CNP management personnel in the assigned region. The consultant's work helps to increase access and ensure that local CNPs operate with integrity while providing high quality nutrition and wellness programs for Kansas children. The CNPs include the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, After School Care Snack Program, Special Milk Program, CACFP At-Risk After School Meals Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program and the Summer Food Service Program. Requirements

  • Four years of experience in school food service, dietetics, hotel restaurant management, financial management or program compliance and monitoring.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree with major course work in dietetics, institutional management, home economics education or a related field and one year of professional-level work experience as either a food service director/manager/supervisor or dietitian, or in a similar consultative position with a childcare facility or food program. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Credentials of registered dietitian (RD) and licensed dietitian (LD);
  • Abilities and skills to analyze complex data and situations, make decisions, solve problems, speak and write clearly and concisely, communicate effectively with individuals and groups, develop and make presentations, plan and organize work assignments, set and prioritize goals, practice efficient self-management techniques, work effectively in a team environment and with all levels of employees in an organization, build positive working relationships; and
  • Abilities and skills with Microsoft Office Suite and similar software.
  • Work experience with school food service management or administration, childcare centers and/or nonprofit agencies;
  • Work experience as a consulting dietitian or teacher.
