About The Position

Sedgman FSI is currently seeking a registered Professional Electrical Engineer to join their expanding team in Phoenix, Arizona. Sedgman FSI is a full-service Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical engineering and design development for industrial projects, including those in the Critical Metals Mining & Processing, Lithium Mining & Processing, Potash Mining & Processing, Power Generation, Power Distribution, Industrial Facilities, Chemical Processing, and Manufacturing sectors. The preferred candidate will hold professional registration as an electrical engineer and possess a strong foundation in Power Distribution and Process Instrumentation & Controls, enabling them to develop, read, review, and certify design documents. This is considered a business-critical role within the organization, offering the opportunity to own the design-to-delivery process for mining and power utility giants in an environment built on multidisciplinary collaboration and professional respect. Sedgman FSI provides greenfield and brownfield project execution solutions for utility, metals, mining, and industrial process customers by supplying engineering, procurement, and management services throughout North America, and is part of the CIMIC Group’s mineral processing company.

Requirements

  • A 4 year ABET – Accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE)
  • Passed the Principles & Practice of Engineering exam (PE) and have their professional engineering PE designation (Arizona or other US State).
  • Minimum 5 – 8+ years of relevant experience as an electrical engineer
  • Expert level low voltage (LV) power distribution systems experience is required; with solid experience and knowledge of medium voltage (MV) systems
  • Proficient in use of one or more electrical systems analysis software programs such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower for the purposes of preparing reports of Load Flow, Short Circuit, Protective Device Coordination, and Arc Flash Risk Assessments
  • Proficient in development of single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, power plans, lighting plans, instrument plans, cable schedules, raceway schedules, DCS/PLC panel layouts, control schematic diagrams, and instrument loop diagrams
  • Ability to safely and effectively self-manage time, priorities and activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in gaining expert level knowledge/experience in medium voltage (MV) systems
  • Experience in an engineering design/consultancy environment is preferred
  • Previous experience in an industrial processing and/or mining and metals environment is considered an asset
  • Previous Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) training, and relevant field experience, considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical engineering design for heavy industrial projects and the associated infrastructure.
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications, datasheets, and scopes of work, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulatory codes.
  • Develop proposals, conceptual designs for Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility and Issued for Construction (IFC) Design engineering phases of projects.
  • Work across a continuous succession of small and large, domestic and international projects as they progress through the project lifecycle - from early concept development, feasibility studies, detailed design, construction, commissioning to operations.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, other discipline professionals, and stakeholders within the industry to ensure the timely, accurate and cost-effective delivery of projects.
  • Demonstrate high standard of personal safety and safety in design practices.
