This role coordinates production schedules across multiple areas to meet customer demand efficiently and cost effectively and manages manufactured inventory levels. The Scheduler/Buyer works closely with production teams on the shop floor, actively monitoring jobs, addressing delays, and adapting to schedule changes or unexpected issues to achieve on-time delivery and maintain operational continuity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; 2- or 4-year degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline preferred; OR, 2-5 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (Epicor experience preferred).
  • Specifically, exposure to procurement and/or buyer workbench
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management principles and production planning.
  • Ability to understand and manage appropriate inventory levels and communicate potential shortages to all parties impacted.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word and Excel
  • Experience reading and understanding Engineering drawings.
  • Ability to create and understand reports to make production decisions.
  • Must be able and willing to work directly on the shop floor, in the manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable and proficient in communicating to all levels of the organization in a professional manner. To include daily communication with production employees, through leadership level.

Nice To Haves

  • APICS CPIM or similar supply chain certification preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives a plus.
  • Familiarity with material specifications defined by engineering designs highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory Planning & ERP Management
  • Plan and maintain optimal inventory levels for raw materials, components, and manufactured parts to meet demand and maintain appropriate stocking levels
  • Review ERP/MRP reports to create and adjust purchase orders, release work orders, and manage exception messages.
  • Set lot sizes and reorder points to align supply with demand.
  • Production Scheduling & Monitoring
  • Establish and maintain production schedules across multiple areas (e.g., sheet metal fabrication, assembly lines, sub-assemblies).
  • Monitor progress daily, address delays, and adjust schedules as needed to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Supplier Management & Communication
  • Manage daily communication with suppliers, including purchase order follow-up, delivery commitments, and expedited requests.
  • Support resolution of quality issues, subcontracted work, and non-conforming material returns.
  • Provide input on supplier performance
  • Proactively inform internal teams of schedule changes or supply constraints.
  • Continuous Improvement & Other Duties
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance purchasing and planning efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
