Production Programmer Machinist

About The Position

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Programmer Machinist has an exciting opportunity to own the entire production machining process. The ideal candidate will utilize their strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills to program, set-up, and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments that fabricate, modify, and repair mechanical instruments and industrial machines. This Machinist will have previous programming experience, along with a strong desire for continuous education to ensure they are staying on top of industry trends, and evolving machining software, programs and skills. To excel in this role, the Programmer Machinist will be able to exercise their organizational and detail-oriented skills to deliver high quality product for the organization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2+ Years of machine programming experience
  • Experience having worked in small-quantity, prototype and custom part machining environments
  • Experience with reverse-engineering and machining replacement parts
  • Familiarity with G-Code programming and conversational programming (Prototrak, Hass)
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material
  • Strong mathematical skills with the ability to read and navigate blueprints, schematics and manuals
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and climb up/down a ladder

Responsibilities

  • Program, set-up and operate CNC lathes and mills (Haas preferred) to produce precision replacement and love volume parts
  • Review samples, legacy parts, or engineering drawings to determine specifications, dimensions, and machining strategy
  • Perform reverse-engineering, and troubleshoot as necessary to replicate discontinued or legacy parts
  • Set-up and run keyway broaching operations as required
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Department to design and refine machining processes for custom or one-off parts
  • Ensure accuracy and quality using precision measuring tools, and maintain tight tolerances across small quantity production runs
  • Document processes and maintain accurate records for repeatability and machine shop knowledge retention
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of machining practices, including process efficiency, tooling selection, and shop organization (6S)
