About The Position

The RD&E Machinist Programmer will be responsible for programming, setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. The Machinist Programmer must possess an understanding of how thermoformed molds are made and thermoformed plastic parts are formed. Requirements

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), state certified Machinist or Toolmaker or minimum of 3 years’ experience in a machine shop.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with CNC machines, with at least 1 year CNC programming.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in 3-axis surface programming using Mastercam software preferred.
  • Knowledge of machining aluminum castings (molds) preferred.
  • Experience in SolidWorks or similar CAD programs.

Responsibilities

  • Generates machine programs for 2-3 axis machining centers using machine control interface.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications/blueprints etc.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining assembly problems.
  • Modifies design programming geometry in order to rectify fabrication or machinery problems.
  • Builds and repairs molds from models, prints, or verbal instructions.
  • Set up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to machine parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Use hand tools for venting, polishing and sharpening hi-die knives.
  • Makes jigs, fixtures and gauges to hold and check work.
  • Comply with the EH&S Policy and applicable regulatory and company EH&S rules and requirements.
  • Report to supervision conditions or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards.
  • Attend scheduled EH&S training program.
  • Actively support the organization’s efforts to meet or exceed EH&S goals and plans.
  • Recommend improved EH&S practices.
  • Practices safe work habits and follows general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Follows Product Safety and Quality standards.
  • Follows GMP’s in regard to food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee.
  • Follows IPC product defense standards and complies with all SQF requirements.
