About The Position

Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GSEC) is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative organized in 1984 to provide low-cost, reliable electric power and energy to its 16 Member cooperatives. Golden Spread’s 16 Member systems provide service to approximately 320,000 electric meters serving member-consumers located in the Panhandle, South Plains and Edwards Plateau regions of Texas, an area covering 24% of Texas land mass, and in the Oklahoma Panhandle, Southwest Kansas and Southern Colorado. Golden Spread owns two natural gas fueled generation plants and a wind farm, all located within the Panhandle and South Plains regions of Texas. With approximately 1,756 megawatts of owned generation, Golden Spread prides itself on reliably and efficiently meeting Members’ power supply needs with a flexible and diverse generation fleet that can maximize the benefits of participation in both the Southwest Power Pool and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. GSEC is currently designing and building a new generating unit at the cooperative’s Antelope Elk Energy Center north of Abernathy, Texas. The new unit will add approximately 200 megawatts of capacity to the generation portfolio when complete in 2027. Construction crews mobilized to the plant site in late 2025 and are in the early stages of an 18-month construction process. GSEC will manage all aspects of the design and construction processes until the project is complete. Overview of Power Supply Department The Power Supply Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of existing generation facilities as well as the development and construction of new projects for GSEC. Power Supply staff takes a hands-on approach to manage activities and applies broad technical and project management knowledge to solve problems and support GSEC initiatives. Interns will be integrated into the department to assist with planning, documentation, and operational tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be a college or university student, preferred junior or senior, pursing a degree in engineering.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
  • Technical background preferred.
  • General computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office & Excel required.
  • Must be self-motivated, work well in a team environment, and problem solve.
  • Must have effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work from heights above 6 feet off of ground, wear all prescribed Personal Protective Equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Power Supply Department with various plant & capital projects.
  • Participate in recurring engineering and construction meetings with Power Supply staff.
  • Support GSEC needs at an active construction site under the direction of a GSEC project manager.
  • Review engineering calculations, documents and work packages on behalf of GSEC.
  • Monitor project progress and contract compliance on behalf of GSEC.
  • Observe and document construction activities on behalf of GSEC.
  • Design basic systems and solve problems under the guidance of experienced staff.
  • Perform technical data gathering & analysis.
  • Assist with regulatory functions within department.
  • Expected to go on-site to power generation facilities and construction sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.
