About The Position

GitHub is changing the way the world builds and secures software, and we want you to help build GitHub! The Copilot Platform team builds the foundational systems that power GitHub Copilot, enabling AI‑native developer workflows across IDEs, terminals, and cloud environments. The team focuses on platform architecture, API design, model integration, and developer experience ensuring Copilot is fast, reliable, and deeply embedded in how engineers write, review, and ship code. The team is currently seeking a Product Manager who can contribute to identifying unmet or emerging customer needs and uncover market opportunities across a group of features or feature areas. This role drives success criteria, tracks performance metrics, and partners cross‑functionally to prioritize short‑term, data‑informed investments. The PM collaborates with internal teams, external partners, and early adopters to shape product vision, strategy, and roadmap. They will define feature sets, connect multiple design factors, and own a portion of the roadmap.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 2+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts: understanding model lifecycle, data needs, and common limitations.
  • Understanding of core technologies behind AI/ML models and ability to translate them into product requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of Customer and Market Signals
  • Collaborates with others to perform market or user research in collaboration with the User Research team, conduct competitive analyses, and examine market and industry trends as well as industry-specific requirements or regulations.
  • Product/Service Definition
  • Works on a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service) and may own a feature. Collaborates with others to help write the product framing/vision memo, create user stories and epics, and design end-to-end scenarios
  • Go To Market
  • Collaborates with Product Marketing, Business Planning, and Engineering, to identify product release criteria, customer acquisition, usage, retention and monetization strategies, with minimal guidance
  • Product/Service Performance
  • Helps manage the overall product lifecycle of their area including sunsetting/discontinuation of products and features as necessary.
  • Builds trust with a targeted selection of customers. Enables a line of communication with customers to capture feedback and insights through the product development lifecycle. Begins to manage customer communities and customer engagement programs. Helps respond to real-time customer feedback in online portals.
