About The Position

The Product Engineer contributes to the design, development, validation, and launch of new and enhanced plumbing and gas-related products. In partnership with Product Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Suppliers, and Program Management, this role executes product lifecycle activities, implements design improvements and cost savings, and addresses quality issues on both new and existing products. The Product Engineer applies sound engineering principles, creates and maintains documentation, supports certification and compliance efforts, and helps ensure a smooth transition from concept to production. This is a hybrid role based out of Novi, MI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • 7 years of product engineering/ development experience in consumer, plumbing, HVAC or related industries
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and mechanical design fundamentals (GD&T, tolerance/stack up analysis, DFMEA, DFM/DFA).
  • Hands on experience with product verification/validation, test methods, and structured experimentation (DOE).
  • Understanding of high volume manufacturing processes (machining, molding, assembly) and associated quality systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Exposure to plumbing/HVAC products and regulatory frameworks (e.g., IAPMO, CSA, ASME, ASTM, NSF, Prop 65, low‑lead, etc).
  • Experience with PLM/ERP and product data environments (JDE, Smartsheet, Windchill/Solidworks PDM).
  • FEA (linear/nonlinear), tolerance analysis, and data/statistics for engineering decisions (e.g., Minitab/PowerBI)
  • Methods & Process: Stage‑Gate/NPD, VA/VE.
  • Quality & Launch: PPAP/ISIR, control plans, basic gages/fixtures, supplier APQP.
  • Design Tools: Creo/Solidworks; disciplined DMS drawing control/revisions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the design and development of new and enhanced products from concept through launch; translate product requirements into robust, manufacturable engineering solutions.
  • Develop and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize product performance and key process parameters.
  • Incorporate manufacturing and supplier constraints early; integrate feedback into iterative design revisions (DFM/DFA).
  • Prepare and release design‑freeze deliverables (DFMEA, CAD drawings, BOMs, Engineering Change Orders, Verification & Validation plans).
  • Be hands‑on: build and iterate quick prototypes and basic test fixtures to de‑risk concepts and accelerate learning.
  • Support PPAP(Production Parts Approval Process) /ISIR (Initial Samples Inspection Report) readiness
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues on current products; translate field insights into targeted tests, design refinements, or process improvements.
  • Lead/execute VA/VE on existing products to improve cost, quality, and reliability
  • Define test plans aligned to product standards and internal requirements.
  • Oversee verification and validation to confirm performance, reliability, and compliance; analyze results and drive design or process updates.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional activities and maintain clear communication across Product Management, Purchasing, Quality, Program Management, and Operations.
  • Present technical concepts, risks, and project updates to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies to inform roadmaps and maintain competitive advantage.
