About The Position

The Process Technician role at Novolex involves working closely with the Production Shift Leader and other shift Process Technicians to resolve ongoing production issues. Key responsibilities include supporting line setup to bring them into production, collaborating with corporate engineers on new product development and R&D trial requests, and working with the process team leader to ensure process sheets are accurate and current. A significant part of this role is dedicated to developing new Operators (levels 1-3) through a pay-for-skills program, focused training, and assessments. The technician also supports Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by leveraging Operators and learning from breakdowns. This position is primarily hands-on, located on the shop floor, with minimal desk work.

Requirements

• Maintain high degree of technical proficiency acquired through experience and on-the-job training versus prolonged courses or specialized instruction
• Ability to work on equipment with basic hand tools
• Operator Specialist 1 level or higher
• Ability to communicate effectively and work closely and productively as part of a cross-functional team
• Ability to create and/or exhibit an atmosphere of openness, honesty, trust, and teamwork
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize as needed without loss of effectiveness and composure
• Ability to understand and actively participate in all company safety programs, policies, and procedures
• Ability to develop and maintain processes that are ISO compliant
• Ability to develop and deliver training as required
• Knowledge of company specific product, material and/or production technological methods and procedures, and capabilities of machines and equipment in manufacturing facilities
• Fundamental understanding of standard manufacturing business processes
• Advanced comprehensive knowledge of entire process from concept to commercialization
• Ability to operate thermoforming equipment and peripherals
• Ability to accurately record and maintain information as required

Responsibilities

• Provide coverage for existing shift process technicians on an as needed basis
• Develop new Operators (levels 1-3) through pay for skills, focused training, and assessments
• Support OEE by utilizing Operators and growing through breakdowns and learning opportunities
• Act as SPA for Operator onboarding, demo skills, assessments, and yearly training
• Maintain schedules for every Operator to build upon baseline plant overall level of OP skills
• Lead efforts on the production floor to develop improved process capabilities
• Assist/lead plant programs to improve process capabilities for existing jobs
• Provide process input to new product development teams; lead plant start-ups of these jobs and develop stable process conditions
• Implement programs to improve overall product quality
• Work with material suppliers on understanding material behavior in the thermoforming process
• Assist in leading the start-up of new equipment with process support
• Develop and conduct training programs for line operators and process technicians
• Maintain and upkeep process definition sheets and tracking system
