Requirements

  • Near native fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Missouri educator certification in: Early Childhood Special Education (Birth to Grade 3) or Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical Special Education (Grades K-12)
  • Advanced degree in education.
  • Employment experience in K-8th grade setting.

  • Solid understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
  • Knowledge of best practices when working with language learners

Responsibilities

  • Ensures safety of students by providing active supervision
  • Builds strong relationships based on mutual respect across dimensions of difference with students, families, and all stakeholders
  • Provides appropriate, research-based scaffolds and differentiates instruction
  • Collects and analyzes data, and uses it to drive decisions
  • Collaborates with building special education coordinators to ensure consistent practices.
  • Provides ongoing training and support to special education and general education staff.
  • Provides support in the review, implementation, modeling, and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) or building behavior plans.
  • Serves as LEA representative for placement and service decisions, as needed.
  • Oversees the special education process from pre-referral through IEP implementation.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and MSIP special education requirements.
  • Monitors evaluations, IEP development, service delivery, and documentation.
  • Coordinates CORE data collection and reporting for DESE submission.
  • Analyzes caseloads, incidence rates, staffing, and program effectiveness.
  • Supports building-level special education programming and problem-solving.
  • Supervises transition planning at middle and high school levels.
  • Coordinates para-educator assignments, training, and supervision.
  • Oversees special education software systems and implementation.
  • Monitors IEP goal progress using data to inform interventions.
  • Maintains accurate student records and prepares required reports.
  • Coordinates and oversees the Therapeutic Program.
