POSITION SUMMARY: Marathon Petroleum Company's Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, TX currently has a vacancy for a Process Controls Engineer in the Technical Services Department. Process Controls Engineers provide support of all process control and advanced process control applications for their assigned area, are the MOC responsible person for all process control application changes in their assigned areas, and are responsible to troubleshoot and resolve control system issues. Relocation is approved for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
  • Zero (0) years or more of experience in process control engineering within refining, petrochemical, or related industries required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • A valid Driver's License is required upon hire.
  • Able to work off-hour duties such as plant shutdowns and routine on-call support.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in process control engineering within refining, petrochemical, or related industries required.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the design, implement, and maintain process control strategies to optimize unit performance and reliability.
  • Troubleshoots control system issues, including hardware, software, and network components.
  • Collaborates with operations, engineering and maintenance teams to resolve operational challenges.
  • Begins developing relationships with console operators.
  • Supports Management of Change (MOC) processes for control system modifications.
  • May participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses involving control systems.
  • Maintains documentation such as control narratives, cause-and-effect diagrams, alarm rationalization, and system architecture drawings.
  • Assists in planning and executing turnarounds, including scope development and post-event evaluations.
  • May collaborate with project teams to define control system scope and ensure integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Develops a basic understanding to assist/support APC applications to enhance process stability and economic performance.
