The Process Control Engineer is an integral position in the maintenance and engineering organization in the maintenance and engineering organization, reporting directly to the Process Controls Manager. The Process Controls Engineer will work closely with a variety of different functional groups throughout the mill including: operations, maintenance, reliability, capital engineering, manufacturing excellence, and management. This position will have on call responsibilities and report directly to the Engineering Manager. This position is responsible for: Ownership, administration, design, and maintenance of critical mill control systems, networks, assets, communication, and equipment including DCSs, PLCs, HMIs, Drives, serial networks, and networked Windows systems Ownership, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of control systems' security, back-ups, and recovery schemes Designing and implementing process control strategies to support new and existing processes responsible for process efficiency improvements and optimization, process variability reduction, compliance with environmental and safety requirements, and equipment/process reliability. Optimization of mill processes via subsystem balancing, supervisory controls, loop tuning, etc. Repairing, or assisting in the repair of, both operational and functional Control System related problems Supporting the training of operators and maintenance personnel on control or system functionality Promoting the business continuity of process control systems through documentation, training, and management-of-change Assisting with and/or acting as a project manager for capital improvement projects including the design, selection, and approval of both automation hardware and software Assisting with management of vendors and contractors on-site, including representing the company as an on-site Contract Coordinator Assisting with Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs) Sharing responsibility for providing weekend and off-hour support for all Process Control and mill electrical and instrumentation needs Key customers include plant operators and supervisors, technical and business groups, and maintenance employees. Support training of operators and maintenance personnel on new control functions. Assist technical groups with process improvement activities. Assist in process/maintenance troubleshooting activities and RCFA investigations. Other duties as assigned
