The Process Controls Engineer, based at the East St. Louis facility, is responsible for monitoring, developing, and improving manufacturing processes by applying advanced process control principles and best practices. This role includes identifying and implementing opportunities for process optimization, maintaining and modifying control systems, and serving as the lead technical resource for electrical system troubleshooting and equipment specifications. The engineer supports daily operations and maintenance teams, contributing to both individual and team performance objectives through technical expertise and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • 3–10 years of process control experience in the chemical, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing control systems, including PLCs, variable speed motor drives, HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), sensors, transmitters, instrumentation, PLC logic/programming, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and power distribution.
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or in related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Rockwell PLCs and the FactoryTalk system is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Support the troubleshooting and repair of process instrumentation and control equipment/systems.
  • Design, develop, manage, and implement process control and automation projects involving systems and technologies such as DCS, PLCs, safety systems, and data acquisition systems.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard engineering practices related to PLC alarm management and safety system best practices.
  • Optimize and automate plant controls using techniques such as loop tuning and advanced process control applications, with a focus on improving facility cost-effectiveness and production capacity.
  • Provide technical support and expertise for process control in both batch and continuous chemical manufacturing.
  • Develop cost estimates, schedules, capital budgets, cash flow projections, and financial documentation to support capital projects.
  • Manage consultants, vendors, and contractors in preparing detailed engineering plans and specifications for the procurement and construction of capital assets.
  • Participate in process hazard analyses, process safety reviews, process change authorizations, pre-startup safety reviews, and mechanical hazard analysis studies.
