About The Position

U. S. Steel currently have an opening for Software Engineers in the Process Control Division, located at the Mon Valley Works. This role could cover any of our facilities including Edgar Thomson Works, Irvin Works, or Clairton Works. As an integral part of this highly skilled, innovative team, you will play a significant role in supporting our digital transformation and system modernization strategy while providing critical services to our production operations. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for the design, development, testing and implementation of digital solutions and process control systems. We are seeking a bright, innovative leader with the technical skills, energy, and ambition to help shape the future for Mon Valley Works. Requirements

  • Software Engineer / Developer with minimum of 1-2 years of experience developing in Java, C, C#, R, and/or Python. Knowledge of the Visual Studio IDE. Comfortable with both Linux/Unix and Windows environments.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Effective oral and verbal communication, team player
  • Initiative to generate improvement ideas
  • Motivation to maintain a high level of productivity and self-direction
  • Desire to learn established systems for purposes of modernization and support
  • Java, C, C#, R, and/or Python
  • Visual Studio
  • Linux and Windows
  • Tableau
  • SQL
  • Oracle

Nice To Haves

  • Development experience in Ignition a plus
  • Experience with Tableau a plus
  • Experience with SQL and Oracle a plus
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing setting a plus

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and support our digital transformation
  • Contribute to our digital transformation by participating in the design, development, configuration, and deployment of digital solutions
  • Participate in, and / or lead high impact projects that provide financial benefits and result in improvements to safety, quality, and / or production yield
  • Work closely with the operations teams to understand requirements and identify improvement opportunities; translate into project specifications, including work estimates and forecasted benefits
  • Design and maintain highly available and error resistant applications and systems that support Edgar Thomson Operations
  • Play a key role in the new design and maintenance of modern supervisory systems
