About The Position

The emergency safe shelter is open 24-7 with trained staff. The Shelter Relief Worker must possess a 2-year degree in Human Services or a related field and be available to work PRN with open availability on holidays, weekends, weekdays, and overnights. Responsibilities include providing direct and indirect services with integrity, energy, optimism, temperament, non-judgmental attitude, and compassion to all residents. Employee must be able to perform physical tasks of lifting up to 30lbs and climbing up and down stairs.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Human Services or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to victims including crisis intervention and support services.
  • Perform administrative duties, as well as indirect duties including housekeeping, repairs, and cleaning.
  • Possess knowledge of local resources for women and children.
  • Protect client confidentiality at all times and the security of the shelter by enforcing house policies and guidelines for health and safety purposes.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, staff, volunteers, law enforcement and other agencies in a timely manner and fashion.
  • Must be available to work night, weekends, holidays, and overnight.
  • Answer shelter phone line and crisis line promptly, providing accurate information.
  • Adequately document services in Collaborate and daily shift reports; assist residents in completing requests for orders of protection.
  • Complete intakes and paperwork within 24 hours of residents entering shelter and follow up with daily goals.
  • Assist with processing donations, distribution, storage and inventory.
  • Must be able to lift and walk up and down stairs.
  • Provide transportation, referrals, court accompaniment, and resources for residents.
  • Provide superior communication when interacting with shelter residents utilizing trauma informed care approach.
  • Facilitate support groups and life skills groups for the women and activity/support groups for the children.
  • Must demonstrate integrity, excellent listening skills, steady temperament, and effective problem-solving techniques.
  • Complete Pee Dee Coalition Volunteer training within 3 months of employment.
  • Adhere to agency confidentiality, policies, procedures, and code of ethics.
  • Complete Victim Service Provider training with 1 year of employment.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Participate in shelter staff meetings as required.
