In our multidisciplinary, team-based environment, collaboration is key among a talented group of architects, interior designers, project managers, engineers, and technologists, who work together to create innovative and integrated solutions for a wide range of clients. The Principal, Senior Interior Designer is a key member of our Discipline Leadership team, responsible for the Interior Design Team within the broader architecture and engineering practice. This opportunity provides career growth is all areas particularly in new client development, staff mentoring and excellence in design execution. While this position is locally focused to start, it can lead to a more regional and national leadership level for the appropriate candidate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design or related field is required.
  • Licensed Interior Designer or Architect is required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience including business development responsibilities is required.

Nice To Haves

  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies for growth of the Chicago Workplace business.
  • Lead and manage the Chicago Workplace team.
  • Collaborate with Chicago leadership in pursuing Workplace opportunities and avoid potential client relationship conflicts.
  • Encourage cooperation, sharing of skills and workload between Workplace staff located in various business centers across the company and in other practice areas, where considered appropriate.
  • Influence is typically within the region, business center, major project/client work, and may impact multiple areas of the organization.

  • Enhance Stantec’s ability to win work during all aspects of a project’s lifecycle from planning, programming, design, construction documentation, contract administration through to project close-out.

  • Effectively lead, challenge, and inspire staff to work together cohesively as a team.
  • Provide strategic design direction and provide mentorship of the team.
  • Collaborate with sector leads to deliver truly integrated project solutions and strengthen/broaden the interiors team experience base.
  • Liaise with Stantec Interior Design Groups across region/sector and opportunities.
  • Collaborate on the creation of proposal submissions.
  • Solicit and manage input from others to create an integrated solution proposal.
  • Participate in strategic business development for the Interior group.
  • Work with marketing team to enrich our marketing materials and exposure, inclusive of searching out awards opportunities and crafting submission entries.
  • Contribute towards the development of goals, strategies, and client focused culture of the practice.
  • Has an exceptional resume of work and specialized expertise that supports pre-positioning for and winning work.
  • Serve as client or technical advisor.
  • Serve as a regional SME or across multiple technical areas.
  • Lead the interiors team with individual responsibilities in projects and business development.
  • Inspire creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.
  • Lead the team in setting the visionary goals for design.
  • Deliver creative, high quality, fiscally responsible project solutions based on best practices and meeting client goals.
  • Set the strategic direction and actively manage the performance for all work produced by team members and contributors to ensure successful business outcomes.
  • Provide inspirational and inclusive team leadership, contribute to workplace culture, and take responsibility for attracting, developing, engaging and retaining talent.
  • Leading in the identifying, winning and hands-on involvement by providing senior leadership for Workplace pursuits.
  • Act as company representative at client and industry functions, conferences, and seminars.
  • Consistently achieve annual sales & revenue targets for your area of practice, through client management, market development, pursuit strategies, and/or technical expertise.
  • Strong industry connections including potential clients, colleagues, consultants, and strategic partners.
  • Build relationships with existing and new clients, demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit in managing their business.
  • Supports leading an area of practice that generates a sales and/or net revenue target of $1M-$2M.
  • Think strategically about current and emerging trends or issues and lead in implementing actions to proactively address market, business, regulatory and/or economic issues.
  • Align market trends and client/business needs through thought leadership.
  • Grow the practice in terms of project backlog, client diversification, revenue generation and staff capability.
  • Develop relationships with clients and industry leaders.
  • Active member in local or national industry associations.
  • Work with Business Center leadership to develop an annual business plan for the Chicago Workplace market that leverages regional and national resources and leadership.
  • Identify and following through on new business develop opportunities.
  • Identify and develop existing and future leadership candidates and career development opportunities for staff within the Workplace Business Line.
  • Recruit key hires as needed.
  • Partner with Business Center leadership and the entire principal team to grow the Business Center through award winning design and the growth of all staff in the Business Center.
