Principal Semiconductor Materials Engineer

Diamond Foundry
1d$150,000 - $180,000

About The Position

Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are the rare unicorn that has grown fast and profitably. We received $515m in funding and are executing a multi-$B expansion plan for one of the greenest forms of tech manufacturing: converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy. We are seeking a hands-on Semiconductor Materials Engineer to design, fabricate, and characterize advanced semiconductor devices in a highly collaborative lab environment. This role is rooted in cleanroom experimentation, thoughtful iteration, and a deep understanding of semiconductor materials & device physics. The ideal candidate is curious, self-driven, and motivated by ownership and impact - someone who enjoys working closely with teammates, taking responsibility for device performance, and tackling technical challenges, including materials integration for high-power and RF device applications.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 4+ years of experience designing, fabricating, and characterizing semiconductor devices
  • Extensive hands-on experience with semiconductor microfabrication (layout experience required i.e. L-Edit, KLayout, etc), including ownership of fabrication processes in a cleanroom environment
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics, including transport mechanisms, interfaces, and reliability
  • Strong expertise in device characterization and experimental data analysis; experience with device modeling or simulation (e.g., TCAD, COMSOL, ANSYS) is a plus
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, inclusive, and accountability-driven team environment, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proactive, self-directed approach to work

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize semiconductor materials & associated device structures with a strong focus on fabrication feasibility, process integration, and performance
  • Lead and collaborate with engineers in the cleanroom to fabricate devices and associated test structures
  • Drive design-fabrication-characterization iteration cycles by adapting processes and designs based on experimental results
  • Define, execute, and refine in-depth electrical characterization of fabricated devices to understand underlying carrier dynamics
  • Analyze, interpret, and report device measurement data to identify performance-limiting mechanisms and guide improvements

Benefits

  • Diamond Foundry believes in supporting our employees from the workplace to their personal and home life. We provide eligible employees with an opportunity to enroll in a variety of benefit programs, generally including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work.
  • Perks include employee discounts to VRAI.
  • Our benefits begin as early as your first day of employment. Medical and vision coverage are retroactive to your start date, while dental and voluntary benefits take effect once you’ve completed your enrollment.
