The Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) department designs FPGAs, circuit cards, and electronics subassemblies for a range of products including missiles/effectors, radars, and electronic warfare systems. The team leverages digital, analog, and power design skills to provide support throughout the product lifecycle from architecture and design through production and sustainment. We are currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer, with strong technical leadership ability, to function as the Radar Power Lead for a product line of ground-based radar systems. The Radar Power Lead will join the Multi-Function Radio Frequency System (MFRFS) Engineering team in McKinney, TX and have product responsibility for multiple variants of the radar AC to DC and DC to DC power distribution solutions.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
  • Technical leadership experience, including the ability to lead the resolution of tough technical challenges
  • Electrical hardware design and development experience including design standard adherence
  • Experience with production of a new and/or significantly evolved RF and/or digital modules

Nice To Haves

  • One or more advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering or a related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major.
  • Specific experience with the design, development, and production of complex military electronics subsystems
  • Broad-based technical background with the ability to lead complex technical projects
  • Ability to maintain high performance in a highly dynamic, team-based environment
  • Ability to assimilate inputs from multiple sources and derive design and operational requirements
  • Experience with performing circuit card assembly-level power architecture trades, and/or with system-level power architecture trades.
  • Experience with development of power converter specifications.
  • Design considerations for voltages > 400V and/or power > 10kW.
  • Three-phase power systems, power factor control, and inverter/rectifier development.
  • Military standard power specifications.
  • Understanding of CCA design and manufacturing
  • Subcontract Management
  • Collaborating with Global Supply Chain and Mission Assurance to identify and resolve supplier quality, lead time, and manufacturability issues
  • Proposal writing including cost estimation
  • Earned Value Management System (EVMS) / Control Account Manager Certified
  • Developing and maintaining complex integrated master schedules

Responsibilities

  • Coordination with the Power SMEs on CCA level power design and impact on existing radar power supplies
  • External Power interface understanding
  • Lead the investigation of potential alternative power sources that differ from the current Army customer (e.g., Navy, Air Force, or other location AC Power inputs)
  • Coordination with program technical leadership on issues concerning power in support of production and new designs
  • Interface with the factory on the build and testing of the power distribution subassemblies
  • Support the sustainment team and assist SMEs in the evaluation of repaired power subassemblies for return to the field
  • Coordinate the status of the technical issues with the program technical leadership team
