About The Position

The Principal, Product Manager leads the development and execution of complex product strategies by leveraging data-driven insights and customer-centric approaches. This role involves owning product roadmaps, driving alignment across stakeholders, and managing the full product lifecycle to deliver scalable solutions. The position requires expertise in emerging technologies, analytics, and market trends to identify new opportunities and optimize processes. The Principal Product Manager mentors teams, influences cross-functional partners, and ensures successful product adoption while maintaining high standards of integrity and operational excellence in a dynamic business environment. The Personalization and Recommendations team develops the core intelligence that enables millions of customers to discover and engage with products across Walmart’s digital platforms. Operating at scale, the team leads the strategy and advancement of recommendation systems that impact customer experience and business growth. Focused on long-term, platform-driven solutions, team members collaborate closely with engineering, data science, design, and business partners to align strategy and deliver scalable capabilities. The team values rigorous analysis, customer-focused decision-making, and continuous innovation to enhance personalization across Walmart’s ecosystem.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of machine learning and data science principles and experience working with data scientists on AI driven products.
  • Extensive experience in product strategy, roadmap development, and lifecycle management within complex environments.
  • Strong proficiency in data-driven decision making, analytics, and product feature evaluation to inform product direction.
  • Expertise in stakeholder management, communication, and influencing to align cross-functional teams and secure resources.
  • Deep understanding of customer needs, journey mapping, and process optimization to drive product innovation and adoption.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, machine learning, and data science to support product innovation and competitive positioning.
  • Proven ability to mentor teams, promote best practices, and lead product development using Agile methodologies.
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related area and 9 years’ experience in product management.
  • Option 2: 11 years’ experience in product management or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related area and 8 years’ experience as a product manager, ideally working on consumer-facing, large-scale, highly complex B2B/C products

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own comprehensive product roadmaps, aligning features with business goals and market demands.

  • Engage with stakeholders to communicate product vision, secure alignment, and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Lead product lifecycle management, including MVP creation, rollout, and scaling of complex products.
  • Drive customer-centric solutions by understanding needs through research, journey mapping, and process optimization.
  • Mentor team members on product strategy, development practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Promote adoption of innovative technologies and ensure quality through rigorous testing and evaluation.
