About The Position

The Principal, Organizational Effectiveness helps Macy’s turn strategy into sustained performance. This role partners with senior leaders and colleagues to make change stick, simplify how work gets done, and strengthen how teams operate across the enterprise. Blending change leadership, culture and behavior shifts, and process improvement, this role ensures enterprise initiatives translate into clear action, real adoption, and measurable results. It requires diagnosing root causes, shaping practical solutions with business leaders, and guiding teams through complex transitions in ways that build trust and reinforce our culture and Leadership Standard. Because transformation is rarely linear, this role requires sound judgment, resilience, curiosity, and discipline - the ability to turn ambiguity into clarity and complex challenges into simple, sustainable solutions that improve both outcomes and the colleague experience.

Requirements

  • Change leader: Hands-on experience designing and delivering change that builds understanding, alignment, and sustained adoption.
  • Resilient and adaptive: Brings steadiness in the face of challenges, adjusts to shifting priorities, and keeps work moving when the path forward isn’t linear.
  • Process improver: Ability to simplify complex processes, remove friction, and bring clarity so teams can focus on what matters most.
  • Storyteller & Influencer: Knows how to cut through complexity with simple, compelling narratives (verbally and via PowerPoint) that inspire confidence and action.
  • Truth-teller and bridge-builder: Balances candor with empathy to foster trust, surface real issues, and help people align on a clear path forward.
  • Trusted partner: Builds relationships across functions and levels, engaging diverse voices and shaping solutions that serve the whole enterprise.
  • Insight-driven: Uses data and feedback to measure adoption, learn, and continuously improve.
  • Curious learner: Approaches every initiative with openness, resilience, and a growth mindset.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead change efforts that make complex transformations clear, approachable, and sustainable - helping colleagues feel ready, willing, and able to adopt new ways of working.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to leaders and colleagues, co-creating solutions while bringing candor and clarity to complex conversations – ensuring priorities are transparent, and efforts translate into meaningful, measurable impact.

  • Build strong relationships across the enterprise, influencing and aligning diverse perspectives to move work forward.
  • Ensure solutions are anchored in real colleague needs, using data, feedback, and observed behavioral trends to guide recommendations.
  • Measure progress, listen to feedback, and adapt approaches to ensure change delivers both business results and a better day-to-day experience for colleagues.
  • Infuse Macy’s culture vision and values - trust, service, excellence, understanding, anticipation - into initiatives so that change strengthens performance and is practically embedded in the way we work together.
  • Contribute thought partnership and a continuous-improvement mindset to Macy’s overall Talent Strategy, as part of the Talent Center of Excellence.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
