About The Position

Serco is seeking a Principal Military Trainer - Air Operations Exercise Planner / Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our dynamic team supporting the Joint Staff Support Team in Suffolk, Virginia. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of professionals committed to enhancing military operational readiness through Collective Joint Training (CJT). An active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance. In this role, you will: Support the detailed exercise planning, integration, and execution of air missions and operations in Tier 1 Combatant Command exercises. This role requires deep expertise in strategic and operational planning, as well as a solid understanding of joint and combined air operations, including adversary and opposing force (OPFOR) air tactics and capabilities. The SME will be responsible for transforming strategic objectives into actionable plans while working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including Combatant Commands, Allied and Partner Nations, Component-level air planning organizations, and adversary air forces. Lead the exercise planning, targeting, force allocation, and execution timelines, ensuring synchronization across all participants. Analyze operational environments, emerging threats, and adversary capabilities to inform mission planning and decision-making. Develop and refine adversary air campaign plans, opposing force (OPFOR) tactics, and detailed exercise scenarios, including the integration of adversary air operations. Facilitate coordination and collaboration with Combatant Commands, Allied and Partner Nations, air syndicates, and adversary air planners to develop exercise training objectives and campaign scenarios. Construct and maintain accurate Orders of Battle (OB) for adversary, allied/partner, and U.S. air forces, ensuring realism in exercises and operations. Integrate and synchronize air operations across joint and coalition components within the Joint Operations Planning Process (JOPP). Serve as the Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) for planning functions related to air operations exercises, campaign simulations, and adversary air planning. Provide expert advice on adversary air capabilities, air superiority operations, and effective counter tactics to shape training objectives and exercise outcomes. Meet your Recruiter:

Requirements

  • A U.S. citizenship.
  • An active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of joint operational experience, or Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of joint operational experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience on a 3-star or 4-star Joint or Service Headquarters staff or civilian equivalent.
  • To be highly knowledgeable about deploying and employing joint forces in concert with other instruments of national power.
  • A thorough understanding of operational-level joint operations planning and execution.
  • Familiarity with the Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC), Universal Joint Task List (UJTL), and MSEL processes.
  • A thorough understanding of, and experience in, planning and executing Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) at the operational level.
  • Intermediate Service School graduate.
  • A current or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport.
  • To be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia.
  • To be willing and able to travel (up to 25% of the time).
  • A strong understanding of joint operational planning and execution.
  • An excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
  • The ability to collaborate and work closely with senior military and civilian leaders.
  • A deep familiarity with joint and multinational training and exercises.
